From the Desk of the ISCFS President

It is with great pleasure that I will welcome you to the 10th Bi-Annual Conference of the International Society of Craniofacial Surgery. We'll meet at the Monterey, California convention center, when the September weather is at its best. Monterey Peninsula is unparalleled--reputed to be one of the most beautiful joinings of land and sea that exist on earth.

As always, the highlight of the biennial gathering will be our Scientific Sessions, when craniofacial surgeons and their multidisciplinary team members from around the globe join together for scientific presentations, panels, and heated discussions on the latest developments in this exciting sub-specialty of plastic surgery. Our 2003 theme will be "Achieving Excellence for our Patients".

This year, all abstracts will be accepted digitally online only, and the entire scientific meeting will be enhanced by the latest electronic PowerPoint presentations. The abstract submission deadline is March 15, 2003. Re-visit this website in coming months for updates on all scientific congress information, tours, and accompanying personal programs.

Monterey Peninsula offers almost unlimited opportunity to explore the California heritage of historic missions, Noble Prize winner John Steinbeck's home, museum, and Cannery Row. Or play golf on some of the most spectacular courses known to man.

Explore 17-mile drive, Big Sur, and see how the photographic heritage of Edward Weston comes alive as you hike and view Point Lobos. Drink the wines of the region while visiting some of the most outstanding wineries of California, featuring the Monterey Peninsula.

The meeting's opening ceremony will be held at world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium, where you will be "immersed" in a once-in-a-lifetime experience, surrounded by a special limited exhibition of jellyfish and other exhibits. Leading Monterey Peninsula vintners will welcome us with a superb wine-tasting event as we greet our global friends during the delightful buffet opening of this outstanding scientific meeting.

As always, you are urged to submit your best craniofacial work. Encourage your team members to attend and present their work, and share with us "how you achieve excellence for your patients" with craniofacial surgery. Proceedings of the meetings will be published by Monduzzi, and a CD-ROM of the scientific meeting will be available with the written publication.

I anticipate greeting you in Monterey Sept. 21 for the official meeting of our society. Come early to enjoy the beautiful scenery and many other wonderful local features. Stay late and join Luci and myself at Sonoma Mission Inn as we lead the group in exploring Napa and Sonoma Valleys for the region's best wine.

In short, I look forward to welcoming you and your family in sunny California!

Kenneth E. Salyer, M.D.
ISCFS President
